Dr Sarah Andersen

Dr Sarah Andersen has been a trustee for Brightpip since its very beginning back in 2013. As a GP in Brighton and East Sussex for the last 20 years, she has frequently seen parents and carers who desperately want and need support. She says, “some people want a bit of help in order to build the secure and loving relationship with their babies that both parent and child deserve". Sarah has pursued many different projects alongside her GP work and family commitments. All the aspects of her work, which span from giving out 100,000 seeds to plant in a Grow Your Own Health project, to a published article on the health benefits of singing, come from her passion for sustainable and holistic healthcare. She is keen to focus on people’s health rather than disease and their abilities rather than their disabilities. Teaching and facilitating for 10 years at Brighton and Sussex medical school, and an insatiable curiosity led her to return to studying herself and in 2017 she completed a Masters in Global Health. As part of this course Sarah was able to take a deep dive into the ‘Adverse Childhood Events’ evidence which the work that BrightPIP does is based on. The effects of early traumas have a hugely significant effect on a person’s physical as well as mental health across their whole life course and this is something where we know what to do to make a life-changing difference. Since finding out more about how effective just 6 sessions of supportive care can be, if they are delivered at the right time, Sarah has been even more committed to helping Brightpip in any way that she can.
